Notes From The July 30 Live Broadcast

The Sims 3 July 30 Live Broadcast featured solely on the next and final expansion pack for The Sims 3. This is of course The Sims 3 Into the Future. The broadcast was kicked off with the announce trailer for this expansion pack, which if you haven't seen, you can catch up here.

The demo of Into the Future (ITF) started off with a tour of the new future world. We were then taken through the mall of the future, also known as the import shop. Here your sims can by stuff that can be taken back to the home world and used in the future world, for example, a hover board. Using these objects will build up the new skill - the Advanced Technology Skill. This skill is learnt faster when in the future world.

There is also a gallery for purchasing future clothing to help your sims blend in. There's the option to buy an outfit directly off the mannikin or to customise an outfit, which will open CAS. Throughout the world there are also lots of varieties of hover cars.

The new creatures in ITF are Plumbots. At the Nuts and Bolts Bot Emporium your sims can make their own Plumbot through the bot workshop and buy stuff for them. The new skill - Bot Building Skill, is increased through using the bot workshop. The 'Create a Bot' mode is opened, allowing you to customise and name the Plumbots.

The personality of a Plumbot is shaped by the use of trait chips that your sims are able to designate to their Plumbot. Unlike regular Sims, Plumbots only have two needs - Maintenance and Battery Power.

As usual, there was a Q&A session to end the broadcast. Here are the questions that were asked and the answers that were provided:

1. How do you get into the future?
The journey into the future starts in any of the home worlds. The time traveller places his portal on your home lot, and as your sims get to know and help him, they will be granted use of the portal.

2. Do Plumbots live forever?
They don't age, however, if they aren't looked after, they can have accidents which can result in death.

3. Do Plumbots need sleep or to eat?
They don't need to 'sleep' but they need to charge. This can be done through the charging station or through appliances within your sims' home. Plumbots can become more efficient or even solar powered through the use of two of the trait chips available. They also don't need to eat, nor do they want to eat.

4. Is there such a thing as bot babies?
No. There is robo nanny chip however which enables them to look after sim babies for your sims.

5. Can you leave your sims in the future?
Your sims can stay in the future for as long as you like. There are new jobs available in the future world , and your sims can purchase a home for their stay or continue to stay with the Time Traveller at his house. However, there's new options available once your sims have travelled back to the home world that staying in the future will mean your sims miss out on.

6. Can a Plumbot be changed after purchase or creation?
The bot workshop can be used to customise a Plumbot. They can also be sold back to the emporium to make money for your sims, especially if they have made upgrades to them. Your sims can also become a self-employed Bot Dealer.

7. Can Plumbots be taken back to the home worlds?
Yes. They also have interactions to make your sims' lives easier, and they are able to get jobs.

8. How do other EPs such as seasons impact ITF?
Weather will exist in the future world.

9. What about Pets?
There's more news on digital pets coming soon.
